If you have recently arrived in Valencia to study at the prestigious Berkeley Music College or are perhaps considering this great Spanish academy for the forthcoming academic year, then the chances are you will be looking to attend the odd jam session during your time there. With such a rich history when it comes to acoustic guitar playing, there are few places in Europe better for budding musicians or even just fanatics of the genre to enjoy this type of music.
In the latest of a series of student advice guides designed to give students all the information they need to make the most out of their time in Valencia, amongst other Spanish locations, we take a look at one of the classic things to do in the city. This is just one of a number of reasons to study in Valencia that we are covering here at the Collegiate student news centre.
Things to do in Valencia – A classic jam session
If you ask a typical Valencian about the fun things to do in their city, it’s highly likely that a jam session will be near the top of the list. However, finding the very best can be an arduous task especially if you are new to the city and your Spanish isn’t perfect. So, read on to find out our recommendations on finding the best of the best…
Peter rock restaurant
You first stop could well be Peter Rock Restaurant. This Argentinian themed venue is great for anyone looking to sample some fantastic South American fayre such as burgers or steak, before enjoying a classic jam session. The organisers at this restaurant come music venue are great at finding the best local talent and you’re likely to receive a warm welcome.

Black note club
Established in 1993, Black Note Club prides itself in promoting only the best local talent. 4,000 gigs later, the venue is adored by students and local residents alike and their jam sessions are a big part of their reputation. The atmosphere at this club is unlike any other in Valencia and is somewhat of a hidden gem as it isn’t advertised in the more mainstream areas of the city, so be sure to check it out if you’re on the hunt for a more alternative jam session.

The Vtti
Our third and final recommendation is The Vitti, has perhaps the best ambiance of all the jam session venues in the area. More professional and elegant as the other bars due to the caliber of the artists you will generally find there, the jam session is accessible but has its own air of sophistication. Located in one of the smarter areas of town, this venue may be better if you are looking to impress friends or maybe even a date but is definitely one of the best jam sessions you will find in Valencia.
